Senate confirms Amaechi ministerial's nomination

Rivers – The ministerial nomination of former
governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi has been
confirmed by the Senate.
Amaechi was on Thursday the first ministerial
nominee screened by the senate.
The screening became a little rowdy when the
minority leader of the senate, Godswill Akapbio
raised a point of order claiming that since Amaechi
was a former Speaker of Rivers State House of
Assembly, he should not be asked questions.
The senate leader, Ali Ndume toeing the line of the
minority leader suggested that the former governor
should take a bow and go, a suggestion some
senators kicked against.

The Senate President, Bukola Saraki, however,
restored order in the house by allowing questions to
be asked.
The screening of Rotimi Amaechi had suffered
several hitches in the last one week, caused by the
delays from the Senate ad-hoc ethics committee in
submitting a report on the petitions written against
his nomination.
Other nominees listed for screening include
Heineken Lokpobiri, Claudius Omoleye, Isaac
Folorunsho, Baba Mustapha, Ocholi James.
